Where functional testing of an application is difficult in its own right, stress testing is often even more so. How will the application behave within the production infrastructure and what effect will an increasing number of concurrent users have on performance? Where are the application’s bottlenecks and how vulnerable is it, and under what circumstances? etc, etc. Answers to these questions are not only needed for new applications, but also after changes to existing applications, the infrastructure and the number of users (for instance, after a merger). Rendeck offers two solutions:

Application Stress Test
The Foglight Transaction Recorder of our partner Quest Software allows us to create robots that simulate users in a test environment. By steadily increasing the number of users, transactions and intervals we can conduct a comprehensive stress test. Other components of the Foglight Suite give us precise information about the impact on performance. This approach eliminates the need to deploy large numbers of people and can be undertaken at any time, as often as needed.

Database Stress Test
BenchmarkFactory, also by Quest Software, allows us to simulate up to 2,000 concurrent users on a database (Oracle, SQL, DB2, Sybase) and measure the effect on performance. The most representative transactions are captured and extrapolated.
